Update On Fired Swansea Football Coach Greg Wright

The lawyer for fired Swansea head football coach Greg Wright says a lawsuit against Lexington School District 4 is still on the table.

The ultimatum that was delivered to Lexington School District 4 has generated only a meek response says the lawyer for fired Swansea head football coach Greg Wright.

Lewis Cromer of Cromer, Babb Porter & Hicks, LLC is representing Wright who was fired as the head football coach of the Swansea Tigers.

Cromer had sent a letter to the district saying Wright should be reinstated by Monday or else he would begin legal action on behalf of his client. Cromer says the response he received from the district was unsatisfactory.

According to Cromer, there is a Thursday night meeting of the Lexington District 4 school board but that it's an executive session, meaning it is closed to the public. Cromer says the board asked him to hold off on the lawsuit until after the meeting in which Wright would be invited to make his case in that executive session.

"That is not acceptable," Cromer said.

"It's not fair to kick the can down the road until after Thursday and if he is going to come speak, we want it in open session."

Cromer said as of Monday he has not filed a lawsuit but that could change Tuesday as he waits to see if the board will have another response.

High school football practice begins July 27. Wright was fired after two seasons as the Tigers head football coach. Cromer also said the board told him Wright had no case to file a grievance since only his his job as football coach was taken away and he would still be paid the same salary with a job as a teacher at a local middle school. But Cromer has rejected that offer saying recently "the money is secondary. It's about those kids."
