White Knoll Softball Captures Its First State Title

In a rematch of last year's 5A state championship, White Knoll gets a measure of revenge against Byrnes.

Round two to the Timberwolves.

After losing last year to Byrnes in the 5A state championship series, the White Knoll softball team was determined to not lose two in a row to the Rebels.

With Andrea Lyon doing her job on the mound by striking out eight batters and keeping Byrnes from a big inning, White Knoll earned its payback with a 6-2 win Thursday night in Duncan. The win gives the Timberwolves a sweep of the championship series.

It also marked the first state championship for the program which is under the direction of former USC softball player April Farr. A Brookland-Cayce graduate, Farr joins an elite list of coaches who have won state titles as both a player and coach.

White Knoll won the title the hard way after falling into the loser's bracket of the Lower State playoffs. But the Timberwolves won their last five games to close out 2018 with the title.
