WJ Keenan Looking For A Head Football Coach

WJ Keenan will not promote Charlie Richards to full-time head football coach.

Charlie Richards looks on during a regular season game. After one year as the interim head football coach at W.J. Keenan High School, Richards will not return in 2016.

There are now three vacancies in Richland School District One as Lower Richland, Eau Claire and now W.J. Keenan are looking for head football coaches.

W.J. Keenan will not retain Charlie Richards who in 2015 was the Raiders' interim head football coach after being promoted from defensive coordinator.

Under Richards, W.J. Keenan went 6-5 in 2015 which ended with a first-round playoff loss at Saluda.

This will mark the third head coach for the Raiders in as many years. Former head coach Quin McCollum was not retained after the 2014 season saw him lead the program to its first ever state championship appearance.

Richards does have the option of staying on at W.J. Keenan in a teaching capacity, although that would appear unlikely as he will now begin the process of finding a school where he can continue his coaching career.
