Pedestrian killed in Calhoun County interstate accident

Authorities haven't suggested why the pedestrian was in the roadway at the time.

CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities confirm one person has died after a crash in Calhoun County that involved a pedestrian.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6 a.m. on westbound I-26 near mile marker 121. According to Trooper Nick Pye, a 2002 Toyota SUV was heading west on the interstate when it struck the pedestrian.

Authorities haven't said why the pedestrian was in the road but said the person was walking at the time. The impact killed the pedestrian and also sent the driver to the hospital.

No further details regarding the pedestrian's identity were released, with the Highway Patrol typically deferring to the county coroner's office for that information.

At this time, the South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
