COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is warning motorists to seek an alternate route or expect delays and lane closures along Clemson Road in northeast Richland County as the department handles construction in the area.
SCDOT crews will be working along Clemson Road, between Old Clemson Road and Chimneyridge Drive, installing storm drainage. Weather permitting, work will begin the morning of Friday, Feb. 14, and continue through the afternoon. Asphalt placement on the same stretch of road is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, and Thursday, Feb. 20.
County Transportation officials anticipate significant traffic delays from lane closures related to the work.
The roadwork is part of a project that will widen Clemson Road from two to five lanes, from Old Clemson Road to Sparkleberry Crossing. Crews also will create shared-used paths for cyclists and pedestrians between Old Clemson Road and Chimneyridge Drive.
