HOPKINS, S.C. — A driver attempting to evade Richland County Sheriff's deputies caused two schools in the Hopkins area to go temporarily on lock-down early Monday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. when deputies patrolling the Lower Richland area spotted a stolen vehicle and attempted a lawful traffic stop.

The driver did not stop and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. Deputies say the driver then stopped and ran on foot but was captures shortly after.

Since the incident was happening in the area, officials at Hopkins Middle and Hopkins Elementary schools enacted their lock-down protocols.

Richland County Sheriff's Department's investigation is on-going.
