Coroner identifies driver killed in Saturday morning crash in Lexington County

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on Gardners Terrace Road about two miles south of Pine Ridge.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — A 60-year-old driver from Lexington died in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Lexington County.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. in Lexington County along Gardners Terrace Road about two miles south of Pine Ridge.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2007 Nissan sedan was heading south on Gardners Terrace Road when it veered off to the left near the Gillins Terrace Road intersection. The vehicle then struck two culverts before overturning.

The driver, identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as Marvin James Gilpatrick Jr., of Gaston, died at the accident scene. Gilpatrick was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
