Driver killed in Newberry County head-on crash with tractor-trailer identified

The cause and other details of the incident remain under investigation by the coroner's office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — The Newberry County Coroner's Office has released the name of a man killed in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer days earlier.

According to Coroner Laura Kneece, the crash happened on Wednesday around 4:30 a.m. along South Carolina Highway 121 not far from I-26.

Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 2012 Toyota Camry was heading south on the highway when it crossed the center line and struck a 1996 Freightliner tractor-trailer head-on.

The driver of the Freightliner wasn't injured. However, the driver in the Toyota, now identified as 28-year-old Tevis Odell Mobley, died in the collision. Kneece said Mobley was a resident of Prosperity.

An autopsy is scheduled for Mobley this week. Meanwhile, the cause and other details of the incident remain under investigation by the coroner's office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
