Person identified in crash near Lexington County school

Officials say the road will be closed until further notice; detour in place for school access.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Emergency services in Lexington County say one person is dead following a crash on Old Orangeburg Road at Bill Williamson Court Wednesday morning.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports the crash between a moped and a car happened just after 7 a.m.

Scott Andrew Woodruff, 33, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained.

According to the report, Woodruff was operating a moped and was traveling west when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle as it attempted to turn left. The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries and stopped immediately to render aid.

There is no word on any other injuries, and no students were involved in the collision.

As a precaution, until further notice, Old Orangeburg was closed for several hours closed between Southwood Drive and Platt Springs Road. Parents and school buses headed to Saxe Gotha Elementary School and some other schools were briefly delayed.
