IRMO, S.C. — Drivers along a portion of eastbound I-26 in the Irmo area are being asked to find alternate routes due to ongoing congestion tied to two wrecks.

Around 3:40 p.m., Irmo Fire announced that a multi-vehicle collision had occurred on the interstate near mile marker 104. Fire officials said that one lane was blocked and traffic was backing up.

While crews were able to get that lane clear by roughly 4 p.m., another crash occurred at mile marker 108 and briefly delayed eastbound traffic yet again.

And while both of those crashes have been cleared, fire officials suggest that traffic may remain heavy even without additional accidents.

Authorities didn't provide many details on either crash.
