Teen charged with DUI after sideswiping Lexington One school bus, police say

The teen driver allegedly sideswiped the bus and a second vehicle after crossing into the oncoming lanes.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with driving under the influence, having an open container, and being in possession of liquor after crossing the median of Sunset Boulevard and sideswiping a school bus in Lexington, Friday.

Police did not name the teen suspect but described the incident, which occurred on Friday afternoon, in detail. According to the Lexington Police Department, the crash happened in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Hope Ferry Road.

According to a police statement, the driver crossed the outbound lane on Sunset Boulevard when he left his lane, entered the median, and then crossed into the inbound lane.

Police said he sideswiped the bus and a second vehicle that were both traveling in the oncoming lanes. The driver was arrested after the crash. 

According to Lexington One School District, no students were on the bus at the time of the collision and the bus driver wasn't injured.
