One dead in crash involving tractor-trailer in Orangeburg County

The crash happened in the early morning hours and is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — One driver has died following a head-on crash in Orangeburg County that happened early Saturday morning.

According to Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. on SC-389, also known as Ninety 6 Road, near Cornflower Road.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of a 2017 Kia Soul was heading west on Ninety 6 Road when the driver crossed the center line and struck a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer head-on about six miles northwest of Neeses, South Carolina.

The crash killed the driver of the Kia. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.

No additional details were available at the time as the crash is still under investigation. Tidwell deferred to the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office for more details on the deceased crash victim.
