One dead in fiery crash in Lexington County

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal collision occurred overnight in Lexington County. The incident occurred at approximately 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, on US-321 near Old Wire Road, about four miles south of Cayce, SC.

Two vehicles were involved. The first, a 2006 Honda Accord, was traveling north on US-321 at the time of the accident. The second, 1998 Honda Civic, was traveling south on US-321 when it attempted to make a left turn into a private drive.

The Accord struck the Civic on the passenger side of the vehicle and the force of the collision sent both vehicles off of the road. The Honda Civic became engulfed by flames.

The driver of the Accord was transported by EMS to Prisma Health Richland. The driver of the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lexington County Coroner is expected to identify the deceased at a later time.
