Overturned tractor-trailer on I-26 west near Exit 85

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — An overturned tractor-trailer in Newberry County that blocked I-26 traffic for hours has been cleared.

The crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. The Newberry County Sheriff's Office reported that a tractor-trailer had overturned on westbound I-26 at exit 85 near Little Mountain.

And while the sheriff's office initially warned more than an hour into the incident that it could take another two hours to clear, the tractor-trailer was successfully cleared around 11 a.m.

Up until that time, westbound traffic took a hit with backups stretching down I-26 a considerable distance - even with a detour underway.

Eastbound traffic was also slowed, according to the sheriff's office, due to emergency equipment and "people looking."

News19 is working to gather additional information about the crash, what led up to it, and who, if anyone, was injured.
