COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will impose a 55 mph speed limit along I-26 between Chapin and Little Mountain beginning July 7.

The speed limit will go into effect from mile marker 85 (Little Mountain) to Mile-Marker 91 (Chapin) on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, and will last throughout the duration of construction. The work is in the Phase 3 project area for the Midlands Connection project, part of SCDOT’s Strategic 10-Year Plan..

SCDOT also reminds the public to use caution while driving through work zones. The speed limit will help to keep both drivers and project construction workers safe.

When completed, the Midlands Connection Project will widen the I-26 roadway, modify three interchanges, and replace seven overpass bridges along the Interstate 26 travel corridor from Little Mountain to Irmo (Mile Marker 101).
