Accident with injuries led to backup on I-26 in Lexington County

Motorists can expect delays as crews try to clear scene

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Highway Patrol says an accident with injuries blocked traffic on Interstate 26 in Lexington County for several hours Thursday afternoon.

The accident was on I--26 West near mile marker 128, which is about 11 miles away from the I-77 and I-26 interchange and on the stretch of interstate between Old Sandy Run and Highway 21.

That affected drivers who were trying to come into Columbia from Charleston or Orangeburg.

It's not clear what led up to the collision or if anyone was hurt. A video from the scene showed at least two vehicles involved.

While the wrecks were in the westbound lanes, all lanes of I-26, east and west, experienced back-ups.

It took about three hours for the scene to be cleared.
