FLORENCE, S.C. — Countless warnings exist for drivers to be cautious of deer on the roads to avoid damage to their vehicles. An incident in South Carolina on Thursday shows that the same caution is also necessary for pilots.
Notes from the Federal Aviation Administration show that a Beech-36 airplane was coming in for a landing on a runway in Florence around 6 p.m. when it struck a deer causing unspecified damage.
The lone occupant of the aircraft was reportedly uninjured and was able to taxi the plane to the ramp.
As previously reported by WLTX, the South Carolina Highway Patrol says that deer are a particular hazard to any moving vehicle around dusk or dawn, with the end of daylight savings time meaning even more drivers are often on roadways around the same time.
AAA describes November and December as being among the most dangerous months for deer and vehicle collisions. And Thursday's incident shows that this means any vehicle once the tires touch the pavement.
