COLUMBIA, S.C. — Another storm system brought rain and even some snowflakes to the Midlands on Friday and kept temperatures well below normal. That storm system has moved offshore and our weather is looking a lot nicer, though a touch on the cool side, for this weekend.

Saturday will be partly sunny with a northwesterly wind keeping our temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. Skies will remain mostly clear overnight with high pressure moving over the area. These clear skies combined with the light wind from the north will drop temperatures into the upper 20s to near 30 for Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon will be a touch warmer under mostly sunny skies.

While our weekend weather remains rather quiet, we are watching for another opportunity for some rain Monday afternoon through Tuesday as a storm system moves from the Gulf of Mexico and across the Southeast. The best chance for rain will be during the overnight hours. Current forecast models do not show significant rainfall accumulations. Most models have less than half an inch of rain falling across the Midlands.

Beyond Tuesday, skies clear and our weather will remain quiet through the rest of the work week. Temperatures will warm slightly through the week and will remain near the average temperature for mid January, which is 33° in the mornings and 55° in the afternoon.
