Severe weather brings damaging winds, flash flooding to parts of the Midlands

Storms brought heavy rain and some stronger winds to the region.

High winds, heavy rain, and hail swept through the Midlands Sunday and overnight into Monday, causing damage in some areas.

About 10 severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in the region with hail and damaging winds affecting those in the area. Late Sunday night, tornado warnings were issue for parts of Aiken, Lexington, and Orangeburg Counties. At present, there is no confirmation those warnings were an actual tornado.

Strong wind caused issues where it damaged some structures in Manning. On top of this, areas south of I-20 picked up quite a bit of rain with around 2 inches falling since Sunday morning. Looking into the overnight period of Sunday and Monday morning we are expecting another round of thunderstorm activity that could bring some strong weather once again to the Midlands.

We will be watching for the threat of flooding thanks to the rain we already saw, and hail mainly in the overnight hours although we could see a storm or two try to mix in some stronger winds down to the surface.

We could continue to see stormy weather through about 5 - 7 AM before storms eventually wind down by about midday on Monday.
