Small earthquake rumbles under North Charleston

The quake was only a Magnitude 2 but at least three people reported feeling it.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Residents in an upper corner of North Charleston may have felt a tiny shake late Friday when an earthquake was recorded in the area by regional seismometers.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered off of Fairington Drive not far from Dorchester Road around 11 p.m.

The earthquake registered as a magnitude two in strength, meaning it was relatively small. Still, as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday, 3 people had reported feeling the tremor to the USGS. Those reports came from the borders of Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties - the Ladson and Summerville areas.

The earthquake is estimated to have been roughly 4 kilometers or 2.5 miles deep.
