Sunny and hot Sunday, feeling like 100 degrees

The heat will remain for the work week, along with the addition of afternoon storms.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The weather across the Midlands today will be very similar to yesterday's weather. After starting off in the low 70s, temperatures will very quickly climb to near 90 degrees by lunchtime and in the mid 90s by the afternoon.

Skies will remain mostly sunny with relatively dry air in place in most of the Midlands due to a weak area of high pressure. Nonetheless, temperatures will still feel a few degrees warmer due to dewpoints in the upper 60s. Along the coast, where there is more moisture, temperatures will likely feel like 100 degrees or higher in the afternoon.

The heat will stick around for the work week, with high temperatures over the next week forecast in the low to mid 90s, which is near to above average for this time of year.

Moisture will increase in the Midlands on Monday, increasing the heat index to near or above 100 degrees for most of the work week.

There is also the additional chance for storms starting Monday afternoon and evening as a cold front pushes east across the region.

The cold front will stall in our area Monday evening, keeping the chance for some storms through midweek. Isolated afternoon storms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday. Low temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s and high temperatures will be in the mid 90s.

The typical summertime pattern will continue through next weekend.

The tropics remain quiet and there are currently no areas of interest that the National Hurricane Center is watching.
