The Heat Begins to Build

It will be hot over the weekend, but even hotter next week.

The weather pattern is changing and high pressure in the upper atmosphere will be parked over the region for at least the next week. The heat will be building across the Midlands into the Memorial Day weekend. Humidity values have been increasing as well so it will be humid in addition to being hot.

Skies will be mostly sunny this weekend with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s. An isolated shower will be possible in the afternoon, but much of the area will not see rain. A weak cold front will drop into the northern Midlands on Monday which will give the area a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.

The front will retreat to the north on Tuesday and the heat will build. High pressure aloft will be centered over the region blocking weather systems from moving into the area to produce rain. An isolated afternoon thunderstorm is not out of the question, but little rain is expected through Memorial Day.

At the end of the week the heat will combine with the humidity to send the heat index over 100 degrees. However, the actual air temperature will be pushing 100 degrees during the Memorial Day weekend. This will be the first heat wave of the season which can be dangerous since we are not used to it. Please take precautions through Memorial Day.
