Man reported missing from Dreher Island State Park on Lake Murray

Newberry law enforcement agencies searching for 22-year-old last seen at campsite

PROSPERITY, S.C. — Newberry County Emergency Services and the Sheriff's Office are looking for a missing man last seen at Dreher Island State Park around 3 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020.

According to police reports, Carlos Baca, 22, and several of his friends had entered a closed portion of the park located outside of Prosperity, SC, on Lake Murray, and set up a tent in a camping site.

Baca is described as an Hispanic male, 5'10", around 170 pounds, with brown curly hair. 

He was last seen wearing a camouflaged pull over with hood, black shirt, light colored jeans, and white shoes. Baca took his keys and wallett, but left his cellphone.

Park Rangers contacted the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services around 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Newberry County Emergency Services, Sheriff's Office, State Park Rangers, and State agencies are assisting in the search. An extensive search of the area has been conducted with sonar searches done in the waters adjoining the campsite and an aerial search done by a SLED helicopter. 

Park Rangers and Sheriff's Deputies continued to ride the area through the night.
