Missing Darlington County man found dead in Lee County, officials say

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting in the investigation.

LEE COUNTY, S.C. — A missing person from Darlington County was found dead in a vehicle on Saturday in Lee County, officials say.

According to Lee County Coroner Larry Logan, 20-year-old Tavaris Dolford was found dead in a vehicle on Dutch Lane around 11:30 a.m. Logan's office pronounced Dolford dead at the scene, but an investigation is still underway regarding how and when he died.

Logan said someone spotted the vehicle and, upon closer examination, called 911.

According to a previous alert from the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, Dolford was reported missing by his family on Thursday. They last saw him on South Center Road in Darlington County.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has joined the death investigation and is working with the Lee County and Darlington County sheriff's offices and the coroner's office.

Coroner Logan said his office had scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday to determine more about how and when Dolford died.
