Students in Fairfield now can become FAA certified drone pilots for free

Over the course of several weeks 18-20 students at a time will attend 18 sessions to learn all the ins and outs of becoming a pilot.

In Fairfield county an announcement was made that’s encouraging to students to seek innovative career opportunities while learning how to fly in the friendly skies.

Through a partnership with AI Nautics, a drone service company, students at Fairfield career technology center will now have the chance to become an FAA commercial drone certified pilot.

Over the course of several weeks 18-20 students at a time will attend 18 sessions to learn all the ins and outs of becoming a pilot. The sessions and final exam will be free of charge and will mark the first partnership of its kind for school districts in the midlands.

"I wanted to bring the drone program here to Fairfield county because I wanted to give our students an opportunity to be on the forefront as far as receiving their FAA pilot license" says Dr. G. Cleve Pilot, Director of the career technology center, "But I also want to show students and people how they can profit off of receiving their FAA pilot license."

The drone service company,  AI Nautics is not only looking to provide a service but their goal is to partner with schools to enhance the drone industry.

"The great thing about a FAA license for a young person is that it’s a platform builder, meaning that these scholars can go into any career path where they choose to" says Christopher Williams, director of partnership and founder of  AI Nautics, "That could be computer engineering, electrical engineering, videography, news broadcaster and still use their certification in that industry but build that platform."

The school says the 90 minute sessions will begin this month and they say the interest has been so high that they’re looking to start an adult class in the near future .
