Missing Anderson County girl found safe thanks to social media, deputies say

The person who spotted the girl said they recognized her from a social media post about the missing girl.

WILLIAMSTON, S.C. — Anderson County deputies say a missing 11-year-old girl was found safe Thursday morning.

After searching all night for 11-year-old Brittney McClain, deputies say they received a phone call Thursday morning from a driver who had spotted the girl riding her bike near Lester Road in Williamston. When they arrived on scene, deputies confirmed the girl was, in fact, Brittney McClain. EMS was called to check on the girl, who is said to be fine.

The person who spotted McClain told dispatchers she had seen a post on social media and was able to recognize the missing girl. Anderson County deputies expressed thanks to all who helped the word out.

Deputies had previously asked for the public's help to the Williamston girl, who was believed to be a runaway.

The last contact McClain had with her family was earlier Wednesday evening, according to deputies. She was believed to have left her residence traveling on foot around 8:15 p.m.
