Plenty of planets in the June night sky

There will be a lot to view once again in the Midlands night sky! Here is what to expect.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Heading into the new month we have plenty to see in the night sky here in the Midlands!

Before we get into all of that let's take a look at some of the pictures we recieved from our Nighttime WLTX Weather Watchers! The big thing that a lot of you sent in was the Lunar eclipse so, here are just a few of them.

This week we have multiple International Space Station passes! The first is tonight at 10:02 PM. The pass looks to be around 4 minutes and travel directly overhead. Should be a pretty good pass so make sure to take a look!

We also have other passes of the ISS this week:

Wednesday @ 9:14 PM

Thursday @ 10:03 PM

Friday @ 9:14 PM

The passes will be long duration and will be very visible in the night sky so I would recommend any of these days to view the ISS.

Further on into the month, it becomes all about the planets in the morning sky. We have had visible planets for a while now but, we will be adding Mercury to the list!

On June 16, you will be able to see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, along with the Moon in the morning sky! These are all of the planets visible to the un-aided eye so really a cool moment if you can get out and look before sunrise!

A little bit later on in the month, we will have Jupiter, Mars, and the Moon in the morning sky right next to each other. While, this isn't a conjunction like we saw last month, this is still something worth noting on the 22nd.

Looking at the Skywatch Forecast for this week, whether you are viewing the ISS or just looking at the night sky, conditions look to be pretty good! We could have some clouds and rain Friday night but I think that overall, nighttime viewing should go pretty smoothly over the next 7 days!
