Bush Elementary Students Send Sweet Messages To Barbara Bush

"And I drew two dogs and inside I drew her most favorite necklace, a book, a heart, and two dogs," said one student.

HOUSTON — HOUSTON – The 900 students at Barbara Bush Elementary School off Eldridge Parkway in Houston, spent Monday creating cards and letters to send to former First Lady Barbara Bush, who is battling COPD and congestive heart failure.

"Dear Mrs. Bush, you are one of the most inspiring humans I've ever met," ready Artin Kordive of the note he wrote on yellow construction paper.

From, "I'm thinking of you", to drawings of Mrs. Bush with two dogs and her signature pearls, 2nd grader students in Mrs. Kelly Strange's classroom drew from their experiences with the school's namesake.

"And I drew two dogs and inside I drew her most favorite necklace, a book, a heart, and two dogs," said Kordive.

About 1,000 cards will be hand-delivered to the Bush's office Tuesday morning by principal Theresa Rose.

A card, created by second grader Gizel Atakan, brought Mrs. Strange to tears, "Dear Mrs. Bush, you have been alive for 92 years, and those years were not wasted," wrote Atakan. "You’ve made a great school and great contributions to the world. You’re the mother of a great president, flowers are blooming and I hope you are too."
