LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Lexington County authorities say a man wanted on multiple drug charges was arrested on Wednesday following an interstate traffic stop that also uncovered a large amount of methamphetamine.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said a deputy pulled over 34-year-old Stewart Jamaul Stroman of Irmo near Exit 55 to South Lake Drive. During the stop, the deputy confirmed Stroman's identity and detained him due to several warrants out for his arrest on drug-related charges.

The sheriff said the deputy then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and found more than 1,000 grams of meth - or more than 2.2 pounds.

In a statement, the sheriff estimated the street value of the drugs at about $6,000. The sheriff's department said Stroman faces multiple charges, including multiple counts of trafficking methamphetamine at amounts greater than 400 grams, trafficking fentanyl, and criminal conspiracy. The sheriff's department said this was not an exhaustive list of the charges against him.

Sheriff Koon said he was later taken to the Lexington County jail and denied bond by a magistrate judge.
