14-Year-Old Who Threatened to 'Shoot Up' Lexington Middle School Arrested

Police say the 14-year-old from West Columbia threatened to "shoot up" Lexington Middle School in a Snapchat post on Monday.

Lexington, SC (WLTX) - Lexington police say a teenage boy was arrested Wednesday for making threats towards a Lexington school.

Police say the 14-year-old from West Columbia threatened to "shoot up" Lexington Middle School in a Snapchat post on Monday. A photo of a person holding a rifle, and video showing someone shooting a rifle at a range were also brought to the attention of police.

References to the Columbine High School shooting and Dylann Roof were mentioned in the postings, according to a report.

Lexington police assigned extra officers to Lexington Middle School and other Lexington School District One schools while they investigated the threat, which led officers to the suspect's home, where images and video, along with specific Snapchat account information matching the postings, were found on the suspect's phone.

He was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice

“The Lexington Police Department is committed to providing safe campuses for students, faculty and staff to learn and work," said Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green. "Threats through social media will always be taken seriously and fully investigated by our officers."
