Clemson Commit Brings Winning Attitude To Shrine Bowl

The Gamecocks have Mr. Football in Dakereon Joyner but Clemson is getting the South Carolina Gatorade Player of they year in South Pointe quarterback DerIon Kendrick.

The QB is working at wide receiver this week for the South team in this weekend's Shrine Bowl. He said he knows the position well, can catch the ball and is familiar with route running because he used to play receiver. He likes being a part of star-studded team as well.

"Once again showing off my talent and just being able to come out here and be competitive with other top players," Kendrick said.

Kendrick led South Pointe to their fourth straight state championship this season. He threw for over 2600 yards and ran for almost 1200 yards. He accounted for 49 touchdowns.

The Stallions went 15-0 so all Kendrick knows is winning which fits right in line with what the Tigers are doing in Clemson. But it also means taking team's best shot every game.

"They target us by wanting to beat us first and then also wanting to get to know us as a player and also as a school."

Kendrick and the South Team will take on the North in the Shrine Bowl this Saturday at 2pm in Gibbs Stadium at Wofford College.
