City of Columbia to host entrepreneurial training programs for small business owners

Office of Business Opportunities is now accepting applications for programs to run January through March; deadline to apply is Monday, Jan. 8.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — If you've ever thought of owning your own business or finding ways to grow your existing small business, the City of Columbia may have some programs that can assist you. The city's Office of Business Opportunities (OBO) will be hosting two programs tailor-made local entrepreneurs and start-ups.

OBO is now accepting applications for NxLevel Microentrepreneur and 2024 FastTrac Growth Venture programs that will run mid-January through March.

NxLevel Microentrepreneur is designed for beginning business owners/start-ups who want to learn more about "self-sufficiency through self-employment." Participants will learn how to choose a business idea, develop a marketing plan, how to hone your elevator pitch to investors, explore financial options, develop customer service philosophy, and other business skills. Learn how to stabilize and grow your business and gain an understanding of the Community Reinvestment Act.

In-person classes are limited to the first 35 registered participants and will be held at Busby Street Community Center, 1735 Busby St., Thursdays January 25 through March 28, and at Earlewood Park Community Center, 1113 Recreation Dr., on March 14. 2024 FastTrac Growth Venture is for those who want to take their existing business to the next level. Participants will learn budgeting, sales strategies, management team roles, operational systems and business plan implementation. Classes will be held January 23 through March 26 at Midlands Technical College Northeast Campus on Powell Road.
