COLUMBIA, S.C. — The rap group Salt-n-Pepa will be the headline act for Columbia's Famously Hot New Year on Dec. 31.

Salt-n-Pepa were the first female rap act to win a Grammy and produced hits such as "Push It," "Shoop,"  and "Whatta Man." The duo broke barriers in empowering women and influenced millions with their music.

The free concert to ring in the New Year will be followed by the biggest New Year's Eve fireworks display in the state.

Charismatic Charleston band The High Divers, with a mix of Motown and rock 'n roll sound, and Columbia's jazzy Cottontown Soul Society will be the opening acts.

The concert stage will be set up at the corner of Gervais and Sumter, in front of the SC Supreme Court building. There will be seven food stations and three beer, wine and bubbly stations.

Gervais Street between Assemby and Sumter will be closed as will the first block of Main to Lady Street.
