COLUMBIA, S.C. — Answering a need in the community, one church in North Columbia is expanding it's ministry for homeless and housing insecure LGBTQIA+ youth by offering a haven and a homecooked meal twice a month.

Reformation Lutheran Church, at 1118 Union St., is expanding it's Safe Space Dining program to the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. On those days, youth between the ages of 14 and 23 are offered a safe space to congregate and rest, a homecooked meal, and a backpack of items for use in everyday life.

Church officials stress this is a ministry of giving and therefore there will be "no preaching or conversion therapy attempts, only support and comfort."

Those who wish to participate should arrive at the church's office door at 6 pm, no reservations necessary. For those using the transit system, Reformation Lutheran is located three blocks from the River Drive and North Main Street stop on COMET's 101 North Main route, or two blocks form the Union Street and Park Street stop on COMET's 6 Eau Claire route.
