Senior living community newlyweds: An Idaho love story for the ages

You know the old adage, "love has no age limit." Well, a couple that lives in the same retirement community in Eagle is proof of that.

EAGLE, Idaho — Richard Duke and Rosemarie Phillips met at Revel Eagle Senior Living Community and began dating in July 2023. The two were married by November and marked the celebration with a party-packed reception on Wednesday.

A love that started with movies, games and line dancing at Revel Eagle was the setting for a love story of the ages.

"That bonded us. Every Wednesday, we'd get together and start line dancing," Rosemarie said. "We found out that we were both from Montana and the rest is history."

Rosemarie and Richard, or "R and R" as they are referred to as, are both in their late 70's. However, Rosemarie will ring in her 80th birthday before Richard.

"I'll be 80 in May," Rosemarie said, followed by a playful remark from Richard. "She's a cougar. I'm a year, almost a year and a half, younger!"

R and R were married after four months of dating in their home state, in Missoula, on the University of Montana campus.

"It's so exciting for us to see them come together and build that relationship and then take it to that level," Revel Eagle Executive Director Silk Higer said.

Higer elaborated on the relationships formed at Revel senior living, "people definitely meet here. We have several couples in our community. But this is the first time that any of them have gotten married."

With R and R's closest friends and family in attendance, the couple found no better place to have their reception than at the senior living community of which the couple calls home.

"There's the kind of spirit here where it becomes almost like family with a lot of people," Richard said.

The night was full of love, laughter and none other than their favorite activity – line dancing.

With Junkyard Bob playing tunes in the background, R and R attest that it is never too late to find love.

"You're never too old," Richard said. "We're living proof."

Rosemarie chimed in, "if you have the feeling that things are right for you, go for it."

R and R say they will continue to build their relationship one dance at a time.
