Macon woman creates prayer pillows for law enforcement

MACON, Ga. -- An 80-year-old Macon woman is delivering her own type of blessing to local officers.

MACON, Ga. -- An 80-year-old Macon woman is delivering her own type of blessing to local officers.

Norma Basley, a former officer herself in California, has taken the time to create prayer pillows for police officers in Jones County.

With the recent uptick of police violence around the country, Basley is hoping the pillows will bring comfort to our local law enforcement and encourage them to pray.

“Everybody can pray in their own way, at their own time, no specific time of day,” Basley told WMAZ. “It is just a reminder that we can all pray and think about somebody else is in our prayers.”

Some of the officers say they carry them around every day.

Lt. Travis Douglas with the Jones County Sheriff's Office says it's nice to know that the community is thinking about law enforcement and praying for them.

“With the times that is going on, not everybody is liking the law enforcement and things like that," Douglas said. "So when Ms. Basley comes up here and brings up some prayers pillows, it let's all the guys and girls know that ‘hey the community still cares about us and supports us’ and that makes us feel really good.”

Basley is currently creating pillows for the Bibb County Sheriff's Office and says she hopes to reach out to the Eastman Police Department next.
