COLUMBIA, S.C. — The City of Columbia and the Municipal Association of South Carolina want to remind business owners that the deadline for renewing existing business licenses is fast approaching.

Under the South Carolina Business License Tax Standardization Act of 2022, the state-mandated standard license year is May 1 to April 30, therefore, existing licenses must be renewed by April 30 or face penalties beginning May 1.

Existing municipal and county business licenses can be renewed online through the Local Business License Renewal Center or by visiting the individual jurisdiction where the business is based.

The SC Business License Tax Standardization Act (Act 176) was passed in September 2020 in an effort to standardize the business license/tax year for all businesses in the state. It set a standard license year (May 1-April 30), created standard license application forms that were approved by the SC Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office and the online payment portal (Local Business License Renewal Center) where businesses can renew all local licenses at one time.
