What are your chances of winning the $1 billion jackpot?

The SC Education Lottery says your chances are slim.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Someone could be a billionaire from Monday’s Powerball drawing.

The prize, a little more than a billion dollars.

Checking your ticket, the winning numbers are 24, 56, 19, 40, 42 and  the Powerball was 23.

“Well I hope to be the winner. I mean this is the type of money that could change a life,” Tina Mills said while buying her ticket at Jimmy’s Mart on Two Notch Rd.

She tried her luck on Monday in the billion-dollar Powerball jackpot, like many others in the U.S.

But how likely is she to get to take home that prize?

“The odds of winning the billion dollar jackpot tonight are 1 in 293 million,” Holli Armstrong with the South Carolina Education Lottery said.

While the odds are slim, she said there is still hope.

“It sounds long but we have had seven players in South Carolina win the Powerball jackpot and so we’re hoping tonight is our lucky night again,” Armstrong said.

Some people playing Monday’s drawing say they have a plan while others wing it when approaching the numbers.

“My method? Is prayer. That’s it, all I can do is pray about it,” Johnnie Hicks said.

“I do a quick pick every time because I feel like the odds of my actual number coming out is, won't ever happen,” Tina Mills said.

Even if you don’t win in South Carolina, for every dollar spent at least 40 cents goes back into the South Carolina education fund.

“When you play the lottery in South Carolina you’re supporting a great cause, education. Roughly 43 cents of every dollar you spend play Powerball directly supports education here in South Carolina,” Hollie Armstrong said.

With that in mind and a small chance of winning Hicks said there will be signs if he wins.

“I’m going to disappear and you’ll probably never see me working this hard no more,” he said.

If no one wins this latest drawing then Wednesday’s jackpot would grow to over 1.2 billion dollars.
