Find your holiday gifts at thrift stores

If you're looking to add a little throwback style to the holidays, thrift stores may be at the top of your list.

INDIANAPOLIS — What's old is new again. That's the idea behind consignment stores and thrift shops.

And some thrift shops sell more specialized items than others.

For example, vintage concert T-shirts are one of the reasons Megan Gifford shops at Naptown Thrift on Indy's north side.

"I kind of look for a little bit of everything," Gifford said.

And a little bit of everything is what you'll find in the stores.

They offer retro items often unique to Indy from old racing shirts to retro Colts' gear.

"I like that I can come and get an affordable way to express my style," Gifford said.

And when she gets sick of a look, she brings it back to resell.

Naptown co-owner Aaron Marshall began selling the vintage items in 2015 out of a storage unit using Instagram.

"We eventually got big enough to where, after I graduated from college at Butler, were able to open up a brick-and-mortar storefront," Marshall said.

He added that most items are $30 and under, and that if you're shopping in different decades, you might need to size up.

"A lot of times the older stuff runs smaller, especially as you get older. So if you're looking for a specific 80s or 70s piece, a lot of times the XL may fit closer to a medium," Marshall said.

For more a modern clothing, try Amanda's Exchange in Carmel. The store sells both consigned clothing and home goods.

And for the little ones, there are multiple Once Upon a Child stores in the area. Their consigned items often have original tags.

Before you buy anything, double check the return policy.

For example, Naptown Thrift does not accept returns or exchanges.
