Columbia city parks, recreation centers open early due to teacher rally

The centers will open early while schools are closed, parks will open at 10am.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Neighborhood centers and community recreation centers in the City of Columbia will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department announced Tuesday afternoon.

The centers will open early on Wednesday while schools are closed due to the teacher rally at the State House.

Students/youth may visit the following facilities beginning at 10 a.m.:

  • Emily Douglas Park: 2500 Greene Street (closes at 6 p.m.)
  • Greenview Park: 6700 David Street (closes at 9 p.m.)
  • Heathwood Park: 800 Abelia Road (closes at 6 p.m.)
  • Hyatt Park: 950 Jackson Avenue (closes at 9 p.m.)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Park: 2300 Greene Street (closes at 9                         p.m.)
  • Melrose Park: 1500 Fairview Road (closes at 6 p.m.)
  • Pinehurst Park: 2300 Pinehurst Road (closes at 9 p.m.)
  • St. Anna’s Park: 1315 Liberty Hill Road (closes at 6 p.m.)
  • Sims Park: 3500 Duncan Street (closes at 6 p.m.)
  • South Edisto (Edisto Discovery Center) Park: 1914 Wiley                              Street (closes at 6 p.m.)
  • Woodland Park: 6500 Olde Knight Highway, 803-776-1096                              (closes at 9 p.m.)
  • KMB Booker Washington Heights Community Center: 2611                         Grant Avenue (closes at 8 p.m.)

Centers will close at normal operating hours.
