1 dead in shooting at Richland County apartment complex

Incident occurred Saturday afternoon, 35-year-old victim male died from gunshot wounds

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a weekend shooting that left a 35-year-old man dead in a northeast Richland apartment complex. 

According to the incident report, deputies were called after shots were fired in the 700 block of Mallet Hill Road around 12:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Feb. 25. Arriving at the scene at Carrington Place apartment complex, off Polo Road, deputies located the male victim with multiple gunshot wounds laying unconscious in a breezeway. Life-saving measures were attempted on the man, who was transported to a local hospital by Richland County EMS.

The victim was pronounced dead and the Richland County Coroner's Office was notified.

A suspect fled the scene before the deputies arrived.
