Custodian finds loaded gun at SC elementary school

Richland County Sheriff's department says the loaded weapon was found Monday evening in the teachers' work room.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A loaded gun was found at a local elementary school Monday night. 

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department they responded to 449 Rimer Pond Road, Round Top Elementary,  around 5:00 p.m. Monday night, in reference to a found weapon on school property.

Deputies were contacted by the assistant principal after a loaded weapon was located in the teachers’ work room by the evening custodian. 

The weapon was collected by deputies and placed into evidence.

At this time it is believed that no children were in harms way.
