Coroner identifies woman found dead along I-20 in Lexington County

Authorities haven't yet determined the 22-year-old woman's cause or manner of death as the investigation continues.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities have released the name of a person found dead alongside I-20 in Lexington County on Friday.

Coroner Margaret Fisher said the body was found on the westbound should of the interstate around 7:15 a.m. in the area of mile marker 62, which is between the exits to Sunset Boulevard and Bush River Road.

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department said earlier in the day that it was still in the early phases of a death investigation. Coroner Fisher later identified the deceased as 22-year-old Stephanie Chanel Quintana of Columbia.

Fisher said a passerby found the body, and her cause and manner of death are still under investigation by her office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Fisher said the sheriff's department is assisting.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Fisher urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol or, during office hours, the Lexington County Coroner's Office.

The coroner's office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
