DJJ employee injured in Sunday afternoon incident at Broad River Road facility, state agency says

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An employee at a South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facility had to be taken for treatment following an incident on Sunday afternoon, the agency confirms.

A DJJ spokesperson said that the incident involved a youth and a staff member in a housing unit at the Broad River Road Complex. The spokesperson said no youths at the facility were injured but the staff member was taken to medical facility. The statement provides no details regarding what happened to the staff member or how the incident occurred.

The DJJ said it had no additional details to provide as of Sunday evening.
