Police say they found a man shot dead inside a car in Sumter. Now, they're asking for help finding who is responsible.

Authorities said no one at the scene volunteered details, but investigators believe a fight among a group of people preceded the shooting.

SUMTER, S.C. — Sumter Police have released the name of a 21-year-old man who was found shot to death outside a Manning Avenue business and nearby nightclub.

The department said officers responded to the area around 9:30 p.m., where they discovered Jamal Ta'Rek Thames of Meadowbrook Road shot and killed inside a car parked outside. Authorities said they found several shell casings in the area.

No one at the location came forward with information, but investigators believe a fight among a group of people preceded the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700 or leave information with Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or CrimeSC.com. A cash reward may be available for information that leads to one or more arrests in the case.
