Teen and man killed in Richland County shooting identified

Sheriff's deputies are investigating the incident that occurred Thursday, April 11

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Richland County Coroner's Office has released the names of two people who died in a Thursday afternoon shooting in a neighborhood off of Decker Boulevard.

Richland County Sheriff's Department investigators confirmed that a 16-year-old juvenile and a 35-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene, and a 14-year-old was injured by gunfire in the 100 block of Angel Garden Way.

Coroner Naida Rutherford later confirmed that the victims were 36-year-old Marvin D. Archie and 16-year-old Jayden Scales-Amiker, both of Columbia.

According to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, the shooting happened around 7 p.m. on April 11. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident based on information that is available at the moment.

A reporter spoke with a resident who lives on Angel Garden Way and said he heard multiple shots fired.

"Rapid gunfire, like machine gun fire or something, and then a couple single shots, and next thing we know, police was here," he said. "We never have problems in the neighborhood. A couple rowdy kids running through every now and then, but other than that, the neighborhood is really, really quiet."

Investigators urge anyone with information to contact the sheriff's department or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or CrimeSC.com.
