News 19 Teacher of the Week: Daniel Bailey

Daniel Bailey has been described as a champion for children.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — As a teacher, Daniel Bailey wants every student to feel accepted and valued.

“I try to teach them that we are all very different,” said Bailey.  “We need to feel welcomed and a part of a school.”

Bailey is a proud 2006 graduate of Airport High School in Lexington District Two.  In fact, his entire family graduated from Airport and he now teaches with some of the very people who inspired his love for education.

“It’s always been my dream to come back here,” said Bailey.  “I love this school and I love this district.”

When the WLTX team stopped by to surprise Mr. Bailey as the News 19 Teacher of the Week, we learned his impact extends far beyond the classroom.

“He deserves this award because of all the amazing things he does for our community,” said Kallie Richbourg.  “He always wants our teachers and students to feel welcomed.”

Not only does Mr. Bailey teach Social Studies, but he’s also the Student Activities Director.

Earlier this month, the Airport High School Student Body hosted a charity drive and raised nearly $60,000 in just over a week for Camp Kemo.

“It’s a great effort and Mr. Bailey makes this all happen,” said Dave Damm, Airport High School Principal.

If you know a teacher who deserves to be recognized for their hard work in the classroom you can nominate them by emailing us at TOW@WLTX.COM.
