GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - A Greenwood daycare has agreed to temporarily close after seven cases of E coli were traced back to the center.

The Learning Vine is thoroughly cleaning its daycare and has entered an agreement with the Department of Health and Environmental Control on how it will prevent any other cases of the bacteria.

DHEC says its testing has determined at least four of the seven cases are the same strain. Two people remain in the hospital.

E coli bacteria live in the intestines of healthy people, but a few strains do cause severe diarrhea and vomiting. The best way to stop the illness is to wash hands thoroughly after using the bathroom or changing a diaper and clean any surfaces that might have been contaminated by human waste.
