COLUMBIA, S.C. — The heat is here to stay — at least for the next couple of months! So Columbia police are asking for you help to keep the community cool.

There are few ways to get involved with the department's annual "Fan the Heat" program. You can donate air conditioning units, fans or make a financial contribution.

These donations benefit those most vulnerable to the heat: senior citizens, residents with medical concerns or disabilities and families with small children.

Want to donate? The program has already begun, and it runs until Labor Day.

Here's where you can drop off your donations:

  • Headquarters – 1 Justice Square, Columbia
  • East Region – 446 Spears Creek Church Road, Elgin
  • Metro Region – 1800 Main Street, Columbia
  • North Region – 3905 Ensor Avenue, Columbia
  • South Region – 2132 Devine Street, Columbia
  • West Region – 690 Club Road, Columbia

While AC donations are of greater need, police say all donations are appreciated. If you are making a monetary donations, make checks payable to "The Columbia Police Foundation" and note the "Fan the Heat" program.

More than 7,000 Columbia residents have benefited from over 5,000 fans and 1,000 AC donations since the program began in 1995.
