Coroner identifies kayaker recovered from Lake Carolina on Thursday

Rescue crews from Columbia-Richland Fire recovered the man's body after responding to the area around 3 p.m. The SC Department of Natural Resources is investigating.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — The Richland County Coroner's Office has released the name of a Columbia man whose body was recovered from an area lake on Thursday afternoon.

Columbia-Richland Fire officials said they were called to Lake Carolina just before 3 p.m. to a kayaker who had fallen into the water. Fire crews later recovered the victim, later identified as 41-year-old Daniel M. Larson, from the water.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has taken the lead in the investigation. Coroner Naida Rutherford said in a statement on Friday that her office is working with the state agency to investigate the incident.
